Oceanside Tsunami

I was down in Oceanside at a testing center that helps you study for the MCAT. The Center was located about 15 minute walk from the beach and it was situated up on a hill near a pathway/bikeway that went down to the beachfront. I had my backpack with books in it and I decided to walk down the trail. The sets were coming in that glowing aquamarine color as the sun hit through them. Some were at least 20 feet high. Way too high for me anyway. I walked down and just watched the surfers catch wave after wave wishing I could be out there too. I contemplated setting my backpack down and jumping in but I didn't want to chance losing my MCAT books and laptop. I was down there for a decent amount of time and then it seems like everyone was showing up. I walked up near a boardwalk type area and overheard some people talking about the Gustins. I mentioned, "Hey I know Paul and Alan. They live right by me!" Just then I turned around to see where they had some sort of security screening checkpoint with tables set up. Hundreds of people stood behind waiting to get patted down. Then they would give you a waterproof sticker that stuck onto your hand. Just in the front of the line I saw Jeff H and some Gustins. They had come out to surf. I started to walk away, worried that the security people would notice that I didn't have a sticker. But it was only because I got there before they started doing the pat-downs. I didn't want to have to go to the back of the line/crowd full of thousands of people. I started to walk a bit away from that part of the beach. The waves were sort of smaller down where I was and there were less surfers. Every now and then a huge set would come in and tons of surfers would just bail. These sets gradually started coming in closer and closer and with such force that I had to back up towards the boardwalk. Suddenly waves 100 feet high started pummeling the area with the security checks. People were getting thrown back into the street and buildings wave after wave. I started scrambling to the cliff face/hill as the smaller waves near me started to do the same. I got tossed around a bit by some white water but because I was so far inland already I didn't lose my footing. The scripture came to mind in D&C 88:90 where it states "...and the voice of the waves of the sea heaving themselves beyond their bounds." I made it higher to a road at the top of the cliff area overlooking the ocean. Below lay hundreds of bodies of people washed up on the shore from the waves. Sand and debris had washed up over the train track. I took a picture with my small point-n-click and moved down to take another picture. Some guy was yelling at someone else that he shouldn't be taking a picture but he didn't care and neither did I. I started walking my way back towards the testing center. I had to jump over some trains that had stopped and make my way down some unfamiliar streets but eventually I got back. It turns out that the front of the testing center was a bike shop and some people were already in buying bikes to get out of the city. I went back to my bike which was locked outside and Kelsey showed up in her Escalade. We started talking and I was thinking that I needed to tell her about the Tsunami I had just witnessed but I didn't want to interrupt. I knew that I needed to unlock my bike so I was working really hard to get that done. We needed to get out of there before things got any more hectic.

Bobsled

Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 7:32 AM
I was on the West Coast. It felt and looked like Big Sur only I knew that I was further north. And by further north I mean British Columbia. The Olympics were still going on and so high on the mountain side overlooking the ocean I found a back entrance to the games. I found a room type gym locker place where a bunch of athletes were gathered around. Apparently the US bobsled team had something tragic happen to three of their members. They wouldn't be able to compete because they only had one guy to man the bobsled. A kid about my age spoke up and volunteered to ride in the front and steer the sled. I volunteered to ride middle. The actual olympic athlete would ride rear. I explained very thoroughly that I had no training but really, how hard could it be? Granted I wasn't planning on winning or getting a good score but at least we would have been able to compete. The older athlete had been training his entire life for this moment and we wanted to give him a chance. At the start of the run I was extremely nervous. I could see my self on TV with family, friends and co-workers watching us at the top of the run. I grabbed onto the little handle on the side and we started to push. Only the bad thing is that we had false-started. We tried to hang onto the handles and dig into the ice track with our feet to stop the sled. Embarrassed, we dragged the sled up back to the start line and tried to recover and start over but the emotional damage was already done. Wanting only to finish we launched again. I was supposed to count out four steps then jump into the sled but no one had told me before hand. I only counted three and jumped in. The sled behaved like a canoe on water and the nose went up knocking over the kid in front. He started to slide down the track, unable to stop. The athlete in the back was hanging on being dragged down on his stomach. I balanced on one foot for a while until I fell out to the side and tried to hang on as the sled sped down the track. When it was all over the athlete looked at me in disgust. His wife and two daughters shook their heads as I walked by. Everyone was disappointed. Funny thing was that I didn't really care. I wasn't even qualified to race a bobsled so it wasn't my fault no one told me to count 4 steps before jumping in. I went back home to my normal life and no one seemed to notice that it was me who had botched up the US bobsled race.

Narrows Back-country

I went down to Zion's NP to hike the narrows with some friends. I must have slept most of the way down there because I don't remember which way we drove. I think we went the more scenic way. There were lots of people riding their motorcycles down and they would do this thing where they drag their feet on the asphalt as they drive. The Narrows now has a backcountry loop so that at the end of the narrows, there is a big campsite and paved parking lot. People can now start at both ends or get a shuttle ride to their cars at the other end. I still don't know if this is good or not. We decided to try out this new camping area and there was a log cabin where we stayed. There were some interesting plastic prisms that I would stack up and when you looked through them, it would create some optical-invisibility illusion.

Necromancer

I went to Disneyland but had forgotten my pass. I had to go in and try and pull up my records but it was a bit hassle. This was due to the fact that the Oath was real. When I had signed up for the year pass, I was sworn to make an oath on my life and the magical kingdom of Disneyland that I would always be a loyal to the cause of Mr. Walt. Everyone had to do it. It wasn't a big deal because it seemed to be just part of the Disneyland experience. No big deal, it wasn't even real. Just animated. But I was wrong. This all sank in as I had to wait and go through tons of checkpoints to visit the Disneyland Necromancer. This person had to undo the Oath associated with my old pass and place me under a new one so I could go and ride the rides. Realizing that this was a serious cult I jumped a fence by the train ride and started running towards the ocean. I ended up in downtown LA trying to escape the Disneyland employees that were chasing after me. Since I didn't have a car I ran through a cement construction area at the base of a new skyscraper. The ground level was just re-bar and wood but as I was about to exit the other side of the building, a tidal wave of wet cement crashed through the re-bar and wood and started flooding the room. I had to scramble back the way I had came but that area too started to flood. Lucky for me I was close to a window and I jumped out. The employees weren't so fortunate. They got clobbered by the wave of cement.

Wooden Steps

Downtown Provo south of Center street there is a cemetery with run down ruins that resemble a medieval cathedral. One of the ruins seemed like a backdrop from an old western except it resembled the front of the ruins of Al Khazneh in Petra, Jordan. I was with friends exploring these ruins that we didn’t even know existed so close to home. I vaguely remember a girl being there who had a crush on me but since Kelsey was in my life this one girl was just annoying. My mom found a building with a burnt out interior and just cement walls with wooden 2x4s lying across the open basement/foundation. As I started stepping in and balancing on the boards to explore the area I heard a deep voice and wooden panels started to appear along the bottom of the basement as well as up where I was walking. “As the steps appear on top and below, follow them into the unknown.” This made the exploration much easier and less dangerous but something tugging at the back of my mind reminded me of the “haunted place” and all I wanted to do was get out of there.

Sand and Flow

I was with some friends on a giant section of ocean that was set up like a natural flowrider with easy access to where the wave would break. People were lined up on the left and right side waiting for their turn to catch the next wave but since it was in the ocean I just walked into the middle and caught the next once because I felt like snaking everyone. The wave was epic, it barreled perfectly and I soared down the face. Just for fun I bailed and let the water pummel me into the sand. Salt water shooting up my nose. I miss the ocean.

High Winds

I was at Walmart with Kelsey and Nate. Something big had just happened somewhere and everyone was talking about it. Whatever it was, it ended up making Walmart so busy that we're talking hours to check out. I had a few things to get but I mostly had to buy a pair of slippers that I could use in a nursing type position. It seemed to affect all Walmarts along the Wasatch front and it also made traffic really bad. We got on a subway (in a magical station) and we were able to get to a different one and as we got out we heard some people talking about how they got their prescription filled but it would still be a 5 hour wait to pay for it since it was so busy. The good thing about the subways is that they could travel underground because the thing that was messing everything up was high winds. So high that people were pulling over and stopping so they wouldn't get blown off the highway.

Institute

Sunday, January 3, 2010 at 6:55 PM
I was living in downtown Kansas City but crime had gotten really bad. Traffic was also so terrible that the only real way to get around was by bus. I was really involved in institute. So much that I would head up to the institute building almost every day. It was also a church building complex. Everything was very secure. One of the classrooms had French written on the door in cut out letters. Something like "I love to read the Book of Mormon." So I knew that maybe it wasn't Kansas City but some place in Africa. It would take at least an hour each day to get on the buses and transfer so I could get up there. I knew I could take the 20 or the 9. Both of which I would change at the train station (possibly the magical one) then catch the 20 in the opposite direction. The building was north of the river and so that's why crime was so bad up there. I remember talking with someone about how much I missed driving and I wouldn't even care if my car got smashed up a bit on the outside I would drive so aggressively that everyone on the streets would learn to get out of my way. One particular day I rode up specifically for a stake dance type thing. I had to get there real early because of the bus times. A girl I knew got the 20 but I missed it and I ended up catching the 9. Her name is Marit. I changed buses and final got to the institute building. Marit and I started talking about the bus system and she mentioned that she didn't have to change on the 20, it came right to the church. Kendis and Alyssa were also there and in a side room we were all talking. Alyssa and Kendis were talking about some special boys that they couldn't wait to run into that night. I was kinda down and out because I didn't have any girls to hang out with once they started hanging with their boys. I think Marit even left early. I started wandering around the building since no one was there yet and I found an office that was open. I wandered in and found a video picture frame. It was titled Waterfalls in Moab. It was showing some rainfall that produced a cool waterfall on some redrock. Some native americans were there storing the water in jars but then it started to flash flood since it was in a slot canyon. They guy filming was a bit away but his grandmother was very close to the waterfall. She started walking back towards the camera but not in time. Hundreds of gallons of water and rock smashed down right behind where she was standing and she hobbled slowly still towards the camera. She started to get drenched but was still fine until the water filled up the area behind here and then changed directions. The last thing before the video repeated was her getting buried in a wave and the camera man yelling and dropping the camera. I had also been taking some flight lessons nearby and it was with the intent that I would be able to fly a jump-jet to and from institute and avoid all the crime and traffic. I had a small scale model of the jet in Stealth but I didn't know how to enlarge it and fly it. I had only taken one class so far but if I could only enlarge the model I would have been fine flying it home. Last thing I remember is google-ing "How to enlarge an shrunken stealth fighter".
